What Is Self-Care And Why Is It Important?


What is self-care?

Self-care is what you do to maintain your mental, emotional, and physical health. It is about the way that you treat yourself. We need to incorporate daily activities that optimize our mental,emotional, and physical health. Good self-care will help you feel healthy, more relaxed, and connected to the world. 

Self-care is unique to each individual person because we all enjoy different activities. One person might consider meditation as a form of self-care, while someone else prefers blasting music. Neither is right or wrong.

What self care is not.

Self-care is not a one-time deal. It’s not that one time you treated yourself to a massage because you were stressed out. Self-care is not an “escape” from reality. We want to live a life so lovely that we don't need to escape from it.

Most importantly, practicing self-care is not a selfish act. It is essential, it’s not an option.

Why is self-care important?

Self-care is often overlooked. Those who ignore self-care are more likely to experience stress or burn out. Have you ever felt so mentally and physically exhausted that you couldn't force yourself to care about anything? That is your mind and body's way of asking for more love and attention. Listen to your body.

We have to be able to take proper care of ourselves in order to care for others. We’re constantly on the go and busy with work, our families, our homes, and dealing with life's chaos. It's important that we start making time for ourselves. Maintaining our mental, emotional, and physical health will have us ready to take on whatever challenges life throws at us.
