20 Simple Ways to Practice Self-Care

Self-care doesn’t have to mean treating yourself to a spa day or a weekend getaway. Although that sounds lovely, it is not feasible for all of us. If we want to live our best lives, we need to incorporate self-care into our everyday routines. That means taking time out of our days to do activities that promote our mental, emotional, and physical health. There are many ways to practice self care everyday for little to no cost.

Here’s a list of simple ways to practice self-care.

  1. Talk openly with someone you trust

  2. Write in a journal

  3. Meditate or do deep breathing exercises

  4. Do yoga

  5. Watch a tv show or movie that will make you laugh

  6. Take a nap

  7. Take a bubble bath

  8. Spend time with your loved ones

  9. Go for a walk/run

  10. Read a good book

  11. Go outside for fresh air

  12. Get a good night’s sleep (7-8 hours)

  13. Exercise

  14. Unplug - take a break from your phone, computer, and social media

  15. Listen to music

  16. Light scented candles or diffuse essential oils

  17. Clean up or declutter

  18. Work on something that inspires you

  19. Create a gratitude list - write down things you're thankful for

  20. Try to learn a new skill or a new hobby 

Like everything else, self care takes practice. You can start by setting aside time each day to practice self care. It doesn’t take much time. Start with 15 minutes. Choose something on the list and spend 15 minutes doing it. Pencil yourself in on your calendar if you need to. Try  to make this a part of your daily routine.
