How To Prepare For A Productive Week
Let’s be honest, we all hate Mondays. Monday means that the weekend is over and we have to go back to school or work. Back to reality. While Monday is most people's least favorite day of the week, it's actually the most important. It sets the tone for the rest of the week. For this reason, I take weekly prep very seriously. I have learned to use the entire weekend to prepare for a new week, rather than saving everything for Sunday. From my experience, Sunday can become exhausting if you spend it running around getting ready for the week. Effective weekly preparation can increase your productivity, decrease stress, and help you stay sane. It has been life-changing for me. The week days go by much more smoothly.
Here’s a list of things to do to prepare us for a productive week.
Meal plan. This is probably the most important task for me because I hate grocery shopping. I go to the store once a week with a well-thought-out list. I sit down and make a list of the meals that we will eat that week. Then I figure out what ingredients I need for each meal and anything else we need. I even plan for us to eat leftovers. For instance, I always cook dinner on Sunday and make enough for dinner on Monday as well. This has worked out very well for me. It saves a lot of time on weeknights because I don’t have to think about what’s for dinner or stop at the store after work. It also saves money by making less trips to the store and not eating out.
*In addition to planning out meals, last week I tried a make-ahead breakfast that I found on Pinterest. To-go Baked Oatmeal. I made them Sunday night and they lasted until Thursday. It was a big time-saver in the morning! I plan trying more make-ahead breakfasts.
Plan your perfect week. Check your planner or calendar to see what obligations, appointments, and events you have coming up so you can plan accordingly. Make arrangements if you need to. I also like to make a To-Do list for the week. Some items I want done on specific days and some I want to complete by the end of the week. It’s beneficial to figure things out before the week starts. Life gets so hectic during the week that it’s easy to forget things. My week never goes exactly as I planned (of course), but it's nice to have a blueprint.
Pick your clothes out. Make sure all of your clothes that you need are clean. You don’t have to lay your clothes out but try to get an idea of what you’ll be wearing. Do the same for your children. I always pack Malia's bag and try to stock it for the next few days. I also pick out her outfits for a few days.
Straighten up. A clean house brings me peace of mind. It's also easier to get around and find things that you need. I don't do any deep cleaning. The kitchen and family room are the areas that I like to make sure are clean. I also like to clean out my purse. I throw so much trash in there throughout the week.
Get your mind right. Make time for self-care before starting a new week. Do something that you enjoy. It doesn't have to be extravagant. It can be catching up on tv shows, listening to music, exercising, something creative, or cooking. I always work on my blog while listening to music or a podcast on Sunday nights. It's much needed ME time.
Rest. Nothing is worse than starting your week off feeling sluggish. The only worse thing would be oversleeping Monday morning! Neither is a good way to start of your week. Try to get a good night's sleep. This is the task that I struggle with the most. I feel so much better when I start a new week feeling refreshed.
